Staying true to Philip Morris International’s vision to achieve net zero carbon neutrality in direct operations by 2025, PMPKL has undertaken important projects to progress its energy efficiency and green energy usage across all operations such as switching to renewable energy at PMPKL’s Sahiwal Factory. PMPKL also initiated barn and furnace improvements thereby reducing firewood consumption and carbon emissions.

PMPKL has made progress countering public littering by raising awareness of adequate waste disposal practices and advocating lifestyle changes among communities. We use sustainable fuelwood to help combat deforestation and protect our vital eco-systems. To encourage afforestation, PMPKL distributed free tree saplings and introduced imported tree species to its contracted farmers who had lands available for new plantations.

We aim to take a holistic approach to water conservation that considers our operations and the communities affected throughout. Over the years, we have implemented several initiatives to improve water efficiency in our operations by conducting detailed water-risk assessments using various sets of publicly available data to identify the main water-related challenges that PMPKL factory faces, as well as those shared by local stakeholders. By introducing solutions to these challenges, PMPKL Sahiwal now operates with ZERO effluent discharge and utilizes treated water in different routine activities.

Caring for the quality of life of the people in our supply chain is a major contributor to our preparedness, resilience, and long-term success. Our flagship initiative, the Skills Training Program, empowers adolescent children of our contracted farmers with essential skills for financial empowerment, enhancing employability and contributing to socio-economic development. We also support our contracted farmers through mechanization efforts, providing them with technical expertise that leads to increased efficiency in agricultural practices.
