Waste
We are very proud that no waste generated by the production activities in the Otopeni factory ends up in the landfill. 70% of the waste is recycled externally and 30% is used for energy production.
Wastewater treatment
In the factory in Otopeni, we have two wastewater treatment plants—the newest has NTPA 001 standard. We are in the process of updating the standard of the second wastewater treatment plant from NTPA 002 to NTPA 001.
In 2020, the Philip Morris Romania factory received the international Alliance for Water Stewardship standard, version 2.0. This standard is requested voluntarily by the company in order to certify the compliance with the highest standards of sustainable water use.
Our target: carbon-neutral footprint
We have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to become a carbon-neutral factory by 2023. We also support reforestation activities through voluntary actions involving our employees.

ISO certification
Philip Morris Romania is fully ISO 14001, ISO 18001, ISO 9001 certified and has ISO 17025 accreditation for aerosols and analytical laboratories.

Gartner 2020 Chainnovator Award (at global level)
In June 2020, we received the Chainnovator Award from Gartner in the Consumer Products category for initiating a new method of digital packaging printing. PMI's innovative technology has been noted for drastically reducing time to market, leading to improved agility, flexibility and speed.

Alliance for Water Stewardship certification
In 2020, Philip Morris Romania joined the list of companies around the world that have received the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification. AWS is a global organization comprising companies, NGOs, and the public sector.
