Social Pillar

In line with Sampoerna’s Three Hands Philosophy, the Company's social pillar of sustainability includes our various efforts to reduce and manage the Company's impact on our stakeholders, including adult consumers,
business partners, employees, and our community at large.
HANDS

Sales, Marketing and Communications to Adult Consumers

Sampoerna is committed to continue complying with the existing laws regarding the marketing, sales, and communication practices of tobacco products to our adult consumers.

The Company fully supports the Government's efforts to prevent and prohibit the sale of tobacco products to minors under the age of 21. We believe that active participation and collaboration of all relevant stakeholders is needed to overcome these issues.

To ensure that retailers who collaborate with the company comply with Marketing Principles and Practices, we have conducted several initiatives, including:
  • Providing educational information regarding preventing access to tobacco and nicotine products to children through circular letters from Sampoerna to 1.5 million retail partners and Points of Sale.
  • Placing information on Point of Sale Material (POSM) amounting to 1.5 million units across Indonesia.
  • Bring about new rules that prevent further access to sales and marketing of tobacco and nicotine products in our partners’ contract clauses.

Illicit Tobacco Prevention

Sampoerna is constantly strengthening its commitment to preventing the circulation of illicit products. We fully support the government’s efforts in combating illegal tobacco products as carried out by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DGCE), Ministry of Finance.

To eradicate the sale of illicit products, the Company collaborates with the DGCE through the process of identification, authentication, and investigation of illicit tobacco products, be it those that resemble Sampoerna’s products or our own products that were smuggled.

Product Innovation for Better Alternative

PMI has developed a portfolio of smoke-free products (SFPs), which are also known as products that do not use a combustion process. It should be noted that these SFPs are not risk-free and contain nicotine which is addictive.

Investment in production and research facilities specifically for SFP in Indonesia demonstrates the Company’s commitment to developing the product while also expanding in the export market.

Our smoke-free products reached critical strategic milestones in 2023. IQOS have been introduced via limited market testing through the IQOS Club.

Socioeconomic Well-being within Our Communities

Within the framework of our ongoing program
entitled “Sampoerna untuk Indonesia” (Sampoerna for Indonesia), Sampoerna strives to consistently develop the capabilities and competitiveness of Indonesian MSMEs through two programs, namely:

  • Sampoerna Entrepreneurship Training Center (SETC)
  • Sampoerna Retail Community (SRC)

MSME Empowerment Through SETC

Established in 2007, Sampoerna Entrepreneurship Training Center (SETC) located in Pasuruan, East Java, has carried out various agricultural-based entrepreneurship training, both technical and non-technical aspects related to agricultural cultivation and animal husbandry, as well as applied research.

Along the way, SETC has transformed into a mentoring training center, a means of developing marketing networks, business consulting, as well as building a network of MSME players.

Not only does it provide offline training in a 27 hectare facility, SETC has now also facilitated online MSME training to reach more MSME players. By the end of 2023, more than 72,000 MSMEs have received training from SETC, either through the SETC program directly or through collaboration with various SETC partners across Indonesia.

Following Sampoerna’s commitment in B20 in 2022 to assist the inclusion of MSMEs in the global supply chain, in 2023, together with KADIN WikiExport, two representatives of MSMES supported by SETC were chosen to promote their product and participate in
business matching in Japan. Sampoerna is also proud that, in addition to the WikiExport initiative, SETC supported MSMEs had also participate in other export programs to other countries, including China.
