Tobacco Heating System (THS)
Philip Morris International’s Tobacco Heating Systems (THS), better known as heated tobacco products or heat-not-burn products, do not burn tobacco.
Our scientific studies indicate that these systems, although not risk-free, have the potential to present less risk of harm compared to continued smoking for adult smokers who switch to it completely.
When used as intended, they do not generate combustion or smoke. According to laboratory tests, the aerosols have significantly lower levels of harmful and potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs) and are much less toxic than cigarette smoke.
Our research shows negligible interest in heated tobacco products among people who have never smoked or who have quit smoking and substantial potential for full switching among adult smokers.
